Michael Jackson - This is It
I heard news about this movie but I wasn't planning to watch it until yesterday when it was released ... I wanna see what the fuss about. And I'm glad I did, it was awesome. I think I got multiple goosebumps throughout the movie. It felt like watching the real concert on VIP seat .. it felt like he was still alive. It felt like we are all still waiting for the concert to actually happen.
It was the first movie I ever watched that all the audiences were singing along and clapping as if it was the real concert.
I was never MJ's fan, though I grew up listening to his songs like Beat It, Billie Jean, Thriller, Black or White, Earth Song, Man in the Mirror and long time fave Heal the World and many more. Honestly I don't own any of his CDs but I like lots of his song and I always admire his works and how he really care about the world. And Neverland ... still amazed me!
His sudden death last June, just moments away from his Final Curtain Call concert in title of "THIS IS IT" in London after 10 years absentee took the world by surprise. His adoring fans were devastated, the world seemed to stop all of sudden. There are also lots of "new sudden" fans. No one wanted to believe the news but yet it was true. The King of Pop has gone.
This is it basically tells us about the journey of the concert preparations. Countless hours of rehearsal of dancing, singing, visual effect to make 13 July perfect. It would have been one hell of concert if it happened. The rehearsal itself was already amazing .. he took part on every details made for the concert and he of course know everything about his works, so if one musician made some improvisation which doesn't suit him, he'll know immediately.
This movie also tells us the other side of MJ. All this while, we, the fans and audiences can only see the outcome of his works, Michael Jackson the superstar -- but we never actually see the preparations, what MJ liked in his normal days. These footage were meant for MJ's personal library - but in remembering what a great artist he was, Kenny Ortega - the director and MJ's best friend for many years decided to take these as something to remember MJ by. The movie will only be aired for 2 weeks around the world.
My opinion after watching this movie is .. MJ is just another human being who wanted to share what he loves best to the world, to his loving fans. He was a humble musician who didn't like to be praised. Everything he did was simply out of love and for love ..
I may not be fan then and I may not be fan now .. but no doubt MJ was .. is .. still the biggest influence in the world of music. It was totally an honor and priviledge for those who were able to be part of MJ's life and music journey.
MJ, you may be gone too soon but your spirit carries on ..
